The Care of the Older Person Service in collaboration with the PDERU team are this week raising awareness of Dementia. The national event of Dementia Awareness Week is held with the aim of raising awareness of dementia and helping improve the lives of people with dementia. Dementia is the loss of cognitive thinking, remembering and reasoning to such an extent that it can interfere with a person's daily life and activities.

Here at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre, we have set up a display in the main foyer to raise awareness with staff, patients and visitors.

Our staff will also have an opportunity to try components of a dementia simulator in which they get to experience some of the difficulties of individual who has dementia. We will also get staff involved in a 4AT - Dementia Awareness quiz to test their knowledge and understanding of Dementia.

The event will run all week from Monday 29th May until Friday 2nd June 2023.
