Dr Ian Macpherson

Iain Macpherson is a medical oncologist specialising in the treatment of breast cancer. He runs an early breast cancer clinic on Wednesdays and, together with Drs Mukherjee and Stevens, runs the West Glasgow Secondary Breast Cancer Clinic on Thursdays.  

He trained in immunology and medicine at the University of Glasgow, graduating in 1998. He was awarded a Ph.D. for research into cancer biology at the Cancer Research UK Beatson Institute in 2007 and completed specialist training in Medical Oncology at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre in 2010. Since then he has been Clinical Senior Lecturer in the Institute of Cancer Sciences, University of Glasgow and an Honorary Consultant in Medical Oncology at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre.  

He has leadership roles in clinical and translational research in breast cancer and works with partners in academia and industry both nationally and internationally. He continues to work closely with scientists at the CRUK Beatson Institute.  

He is Clinical Lead for the Scottish Cancer Research Network (SCRN) – West, Chair of the Scottish Cancer Trials Breast Group, and is a member of the NCRI Breast Clinical Studies Group and the Breast Cancer Now Scientific Advisory Board. He is also a trustee and treasurer for the UK Breast Cancer Group.
